Thomas update
It's been some time between drinks but there's a lot been happening so I thought I better make an appearance on the family blog.
The latest event for us has been Thomas's first birthday. We had invited a lot of friends and family so we decided to have the party down at our local park, Playford park. Fortunately, it didn't rain and everyone had a great day. Thomas loved everyone singing him Happy Birthday so much so that now any time that he hears Happy Birthday sung, he thinks it's for him!
Not too long ago I happened to turn the big three zero and had a few friends and family gather for dinner at the Como Hotel. It was a cold night but fantastic to see everyone there. I was lucky enough to have an iPhone cake and get a real iPhone for my birthday. You can see photos here:
The world welcomed a new Jeffers into the world on the 21st of July. Liam Jeffers of Clogherhead, Ireland was born an amazing 11 pounds 2 oz and his Mum and Dad (Keira and Scott) are extremely happy. "Little" Liam is going great and had his christening last Sunday. Liam has also been lucky enough to have Nanna Jeffers from Australia visit. We'll be seeing them all at Christmas and it will be the first time they see Thomas and our first time seeing Liam. Here's some photos of Liam:

Other than that, Thomas has been having lots of fun with his friends including Taya, Max and Will. Plus, we had a huge haul of oranges from our own orange tree in Autumn.
Also, not long after my last blog we had a visit from Matt, Maria and Ella. We had great fun when they arrived, plus we went to the park, a farm and to the beach. We're hoping to see them again in 2009 with another little one in tow!
Lastly, we're going away to Cairns next week for Bec & Glenn's wedding. It's our first official holiday with Thomas and it will be Thomas's first ride on an airplane. We can't wait to go just to have some time away from everything and have a good rest. Hopefully the weather is great and we can spend lots of time in the pool. We'll have some photos of all the events up there when we get back.

Big news!
What better way to get back into the blogging world than with some great news. Thomas has cut his first teeth! Read that again, that's teeth not tooth. They're the teeth on his bottom gum at the front. I'd upload a photo of his tiny teeth but they're too small at the moment. I can't even imagine how we'll get a photo anyway.
That's not all the news. Thomas has just started clapping! He's been very close to clapping himself because he has been putting his hands on the outside of our hands when we clapped. Last week, as he was about to go to sleep he clapped his hands together. Then he did it more the next day during his swimming lesson.
Since it's been some time since we last blogged I'll try to catch up with some other things:
- Thomas is now 7 and a half months old.
- He can sit up by himself but still needs things around him (eg. pillows, people, etc) just in case he falls backwards or sideways.
- A few weeks he started splashing the water in the bath which was hilarious. We have a video of that so I'll put that up soon.
- Thomas loves watching Lola. He thinks Lola is so funny when she runs around the backyard or chases a ball.
Plus there's heaps of photos of Thomas and how he's growing:
Thomas 5 months
Thomas 6 months
Thomas 7 months
Plus heaps more. You can check out all the latest albums of Thomas by going here:

Videos
Thomas has hit the big screen! Well, the screen on your computer at least. We've just purchased a new video camera especially for Thomas and we'll be uploading videos of him to Youtube. You can view all his videos at http://www.youtube.com/thomasbatman.
Meanwhile, here's his first video:
Here are the rest:
A smile?
Bath time
Playmat
Rocker thinking
Rocker smile
UPDATE: I've updated this post to link to all the videos on youtube. Should've done it this way in the first place.

It's a boy and his name is Thomas!
Today is a very special day. It is the day my son was born at 10:18am, weighing 3.545kg (7 pounds 13 oz), measuring in body length 52cm (20.5 inches) and head 32cm. That's him on the right there.
Linda is doing great after all she has gone through but is just is ecstatic as I am with the latest addition to our family. Thanks to everyone's messages of support and love. We really do appreciate it.
You can find more photos of our new baby here.
Today was pretty special before the events at 10:18am though because it's my father in law Neil's birthday. So happy 57th Neil! Also, a happy 30th to newly crowned uncle Scott last Saturday and the same for good mate Downsey on Sunday. Congrats to Kiera on winning the baby tipping contest as well! She just pipped Neil to the post by an ounce.
Update: We named him Thomas Stuart Batman. I never thought that I'd name my children after me but Linda thinks Thomas looks a bit like me and Thomas Stuart has a pretty good ring to it. Little Thomas may have Mummy's nose though which can only be a good thing!

Finally
Who would believe it? I didn't and still am sceptical but I'm pretty sure I've made it. Lucky too, because I was really getting worried there for a while.
What am I talking about? Well, I've opened the door on manhood and I'm not looking back. That's right, never looking back.
I won't ever forget how, when or where it happened. It was two Sundays ago, the evening on the 20th of May 2007. I was at home standing there with a philips head screw driver in my hand, an instruction booklet and some left over screws and dowel. It was complete! The impossible was possible! I had assembled a chest of drawers from Ikea!
Even a comparison of the two drawers look almost identical except for the birch/white finish. The Aneboda three drawer chest with dimensions of W80xD40xH100cm. For your reference it's on page 115 of the current Ikea catalogue.

On the left is the Ikea model, and on the right is my creation taken on a mobile phone in bad light. I'm waiting on a call from Ikea to do their next catalogue, I'm a shoe in.
It was tough. I didn't think I'd make it but I did. I know someone who got a larger drawer set and also tried assembling it that same Sunday but unfortunately that someone is now in a psychiatric ward*.
So, what did I learn from all of this? That no matter what comes my way over the years from Ikea or any other furniture store, I'll be able to assemble it no worries. That's what I'm hoping anyway. Onwards and upwards I say.
